Nissan plans auto plant in Nigeria

Stallion Group and Nissan Motors Nigeria have disclosed plans to establish an auto manufacturing plant in the country.
The company’s Director, Sub Sahara Africa, Mr Jimmy  Dando disclosed this in Lagos at the inauguration of Stallion Nissan Motors Nigeria as the new Nissan sales company in Nigeria.
He said the company is currently discussing with the federal government on the possibility of establishing the plants in few years time.
He said citing plants in Nigeria would create economic of scale and job opportunities as well as boost industrialization, even as he said Nigeria’s robust auto sector deserves viable plants that would shot its auto rating in the world.
Dando however said the company’s quest to site the auto plants is constrained by factors such as duty differentials and unregulated used vehicles in Nigeria.
He expressed optimism that the challenge would be addressed as talks progress between the federal government and his company.
He said with the partnership with Stallion group, the company is poised to attain number one market share in Nigeria as well as increase its share from the current 7.9 percent share in Africa, to double that through new model introductions, brand building and retail network expansion.
